ABOUT THE PROJECT

The Gate – issue #6
Canongate Publishing
Catalogue illustrations

After our work on issue #5 was well received, and hearing the general consensus that it was their favourite to date, we were asked to work on the following issue #6. Our theme this time revolved around asking ten of their authors to name ten novels that were most important to them, in both their growing up and steering their taste and talents. We hoped this would be interesting to the reader and would give us a lot of copy to work with for more typographical based illustrations, keeping the design style diffreent from the previous issue.

We planned to create typographic illustrations with these book titles, in the overall shapes of objects related to the mixing of elements one way or another, the objects used were a cocktail shaker, a mortar & pestle and a chemistry flask. Unfortunately internal staff changed mid way through the project and only three authors book lists came in, so only these illustrations of the planned ten were created. But together with the cover, listing all the new novels in the issue, we were really happy with how these turned out, and loved the project.
