After working on the publicity for Ninja Tune’s Solid Steel club nights in the city, we were invited to design the publicity for the launch of their new movie ‘Keep In TIme’, which was to be launched in the Edinburgh International Film Festival. The movie was all about ‘the Break’ and featured influential drummers together with master turntabalists.
We were keen to keep the labels iconic logo as the main focus of the design, whilst adding new elements to express the drum based focus of the film. We started by photographing real world drums and cymbals, positioning them at angles as if exploding from a central point. These photo’s were traced digitally and converted to these line drawings, positioning them as if smashed by the Ninja Tune logo – to which we also added flying drumstick weapons!
The illustration was used for the launch party and after show publicity, and also converted into a beautiful T-shirt design.
