ABOUT THE PROJECT
Logo & Signage
Budget Backpackers Hostel
Branding, signage & window vinyl
We were asked by Edinburgh’s Budget Backpackers Hostel (based between the Grassmarket and The Cowgate) to update their logo branding. They already had a logo consisting of a photograph of a donkey wearing sunglasses, with their name surrounding it in green and yellow.
To update their current logo which was now looking dated, we needed to retain its key elements for continuity. We therefore completely scrapped the original and drew a brand new logo using the basis of a donkey with sunglasses but abstracting it much more to create a unique logo brand for the firm.
The illustration went through a lot of stages, but developed wonderfully during the process, finally reaching this bold design, which has been used on all branding since and later became the logo and inspiration for their second hostel the Kick Ass Hostel.
The exterior signage consisted of backlit raised brushed aluminium lettering, with a protruding internally lit sign with their logo. All the ground floor windows had one color vinyl versions of their logo installed, together with a reversed version covering the front door. Inside a large fomex logo hangs above the reception and additional vinyl adorns the glass café doors using the Kick Ass Café logo we later designed.
We continued to design loads of work for their new hostel the Kick Ass Hostel and those designs can be found elsewhere on this site or via the links below.
