ABOUT THE PROJECT

Branding
Red Dog Music
Various formats

Red Dog Music is an Edinburgh based music equipment store, that already had a dog illustration for their logo and a red & black color scheme, but needed an overall brand image to follow through to multiple advertising formats. We were brought in to update their public image to represent the size of business they’d become.

Their tagline is ‘The Friendly Music Store’ and this concept needed to carry through to all aspects of their imagery, they were keen to escape the clean corporate design that most suppliers used and come across in a more welcoming, accessible way.

We began by creating a new unique font with a friendly and natural feel, but that was also easy to read and flexible enough to be used on the large variety of publicity materials. This font was balanced throughout the designs with a cleaner, sharper looking font to help retain their professionalism. Illustrations of the interior of the store were then made, which were used subtly in the backgrounds of the designs. We also introduced whites and greys to the styling to help modernise the look, wary that red & black often look dated.

The scale of the different elements required was huge, from the usual business cards and stationary, to advertising materials such as leaflets, posters and flyers, right through to online useage and a brand new website design. We always tried to inject additional fun elements into the designs where suitable, to keep every element fresh and exciting, and hugely enjoyed the project, which is still ongoing.
