Whilst working as designers and creative directors for the international music magazine Clash, we worked on hundreds of pages over our 5 year span. Clash was aimed at a more stylish, design lead readership and we always tried to design each page in a vibrant, exciting way that captured the feel of the band or the music they portrayed.
The rapid turnaround of a monthly publication meant each feature needed to be designed relatively quickly, but this limitation gave great opportunities for experimentation and over the years some great designs were created.
Sometimes unique amazing photographs were supplied and they did all the talking. More often than not the photo’s needed something else to capture the excitement we were looking for with the piece, or even sometimes, poor photo’s were supplied that needed huge amounts of work to reach our standards for the magazine.
Here’s a selection of some of our favourites that were designed using digital techniques, cutting out the photo’s, adding additional layers, letting our imaginations loose, creating worlds!
